At the Origins of the Belarusian Political Science

Collection of the works of political scientists who stood at the origins of modern Belarusian political science and who were associated with the EHU in different periods of its existence.

With the support of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Belarus and the European Humanities University in Vilnius, the book  “At the origins of Belarusian political science” / “Ля вытокаў беларускай палітычнай навукі”, edited by Dr. Uladzislaŭ Ivanoŭ and Dr. Andrei Stsiapanau, was published. The book is a collection of the works of political scientists who stood at the origins of modern Belarusian political science and who were associated with the EHU in different periods of its existence. These include texts by political scientists such as Siarhiej Pańkoŭski  (“Belarusian Political Model”), Iryna Buhrova (“Belarusian Identity: Insights from “Interpretive” Political Science”), Śviatlana Navumava (“Contemporary Belarusian Political Discours”), Viktar Čarnoŭ (“The Economic Basis of Belarusian Neo-Soviet Authoritarianism”) and Uladzimir Roŭda (“Is Belarus a Classic Post-Communist Mafia State?”). This is a tribute to the pioneers of Belarusian political science, who unfortunately left us too early.

The preface to the book was written by political scientist Valery Karbalevich, who knew the authors personally and also belonged to the generation of pioneers and classics of modern Belarusian political science.

The texts in this book provide a political analysis of the social model, the political system, and the regime that have emerged in Belarus since Alexander Lukashenko came to power. The value of the texts lies in their courageous and critical assessment of socio-historical processes and mass consciousness, which have influenced and contributed to the formation of the country’s new political system. Besides, these texts help to understand what Belarus was like thirty years ago and how the current Belarusian dictatorship was formed.

The book is available in two languages ​​(Belarusian and English) – “Ля вытокаў беларускай палітычнай навукі” / “At the origins of Belarusian political science,” as well as in an electronic format. The book will be exciting and valuable to a wide range of readers: not only to political scientists but also to all social science experts and those who research and are interested in Belarus.
